Roof Deck System: SteelEdge Creteplank

Tarrytown House and Convention Center is located in Tarrytown, New York overlooking the majestic Hudson River Valley. In 1999 this well appointed lodging facility underwent an $11 million expansion that included a new lobby and the 73 room addition of Putnam House.

The expansion was designed by Dennis Noskin Architects and built by Andron Construction Corporation. The design and build team were intricately involved with selecting the proper roof deck system that would be both nailable and non-combustible to meet the building design and code requirements. The building team needed a roof deck system that was lightweight and easy to handle for this complex sloped installation built on light gauge steel trusses. In addition many of the buildings on this spectacular property were constructed in the early 19th century so any new buildings would need to be built with time tested, durable products that will last centuries to come.

Performance and Protection

The team selected Martin Fireproofing’s Steel Edge Creteplank™ — a lightweight concrete panel with strong tongue and groove galvanized steel edgings. This compact panel measuring 2” thick x 18” wide 10'-0” long is easy to cut and handle and was installed with the utmost efficiency. Equally important, the owners of Tarrytown House and their guests can rest assured that Steel Edge Creteplank™ will serve them well into the future with the many projects dating back over 80 years in which the product is still in use. And yes, the product was used a couple years later on the Pentagon “Phoenix Project” to replace the outer band roof decks.
